Organizing your Stash Take 2

So, a little while ago I posted a great handy pdf from Oliver + S patterns which would help you organize your fabric if you are like me and have a fabric stash.

I took it one step further and made it color coordinated.  I think it will really help me utilize the fabric I already have and I won't have to dig through a bunch of fabric piles. I'll just look in my handy binder.

Here's what it looks like:
This photo is of one page in the binder.  Red backing =  red fabrics.

The other pages of the rainbow...

I used colored paper that was a bit thicker than normal computer paper and I traced tabs in 3 locations so that the different colors next to each other did not overlap.  Red had a tab at the top.  Orange had a tab at the middle.  Yellow has a tab at the bottom, etc.  Then I laminated the sheets and put them through a 3 hole punch.

The fabric swatch cards are from Oliver + S and can be found here:

I printed these on cardstock and for the moment I just taped the fabric to the card and the taped the card to the pages of the binder.

This made me happy....

I have been using fabric from my stash and sort of whiddling it down a bit, but every time I went to the fabric store I would spend $15 in thread and a zipper.  I was not too excited about that.  So I decided to see if I could find some online.

I ordered this assortment of 25 - 7" inch zippers online.  I was a bit nervous about the colors, but I was pleasantly surprised.

The colors are awesome and I can't wait to make all the zipper purses I was planning on making for Christmas.

They were purchased on Amazon through a store called Zipper Stop.  100% American made YKK zippers.  Awesome!

Here is the link to their zippers:

Zig Zag 2

I was able to work more on the quilt last night.  Thanks to my husband who was looking after our little guy and the smooth music from my French Cafe Pandora station.  I love this station. Anyways,  I was able to finish the yellow section and I had the discipline to stop and go to sleep.  This quilts going to be big!  :)

A Little More Progress on the quilt

After a failed attempt for a Crafternoon with friends, I was able to work a little bit on the quilt that I've been working on.  I finished 2 rows and made on set of my chevron.  I am not sure if my seam allowance was incorrect, but the points of my chevrons are cut off.  Oh well. I think it still looks pretty cool.  My little one likes it so far. Just 3 more colors and my chevrons will be done.
By the way,  the quilt under my work in progress.  It's lovely, but I didn't make it.  I'm not that good.  :)

Necessity is the Mother of Invention

The other day, my little one got into my threads.  Ahh.... He can get into trouble in a quick minute!

It was quiet and then all of a sudden there was a loud crash!

Here's what I saw:

I needed a way to secure my boxes of threads and maybe a handle so it is easy to carry around.

You could use this project for other things you might want to secure, maybe rolled up towels for the beach.  I'll write up a little explanation soon.

Here is what I made:

So nice.  I was pleased with how it turned out.  Very very secure, and easy to carry around.

I worked a bit on the quilt I have been working on.  I finally bought some white thread.  Somehow I was out. I think my little one ran off with my white thread.  Ahh...
