Contest results and Entering another Contest

So, my red and white bag did not win a prize in the Sew Mama Sew Online Sewing Contest.  I am disappointed.  I was also disappointed that some of the winners did not follow the rules (posted more than 2 photos of their project.)

I was lamenting to my husband that I was disappointed that people that didn't follow the rules won and he said, "Sounds like a metaphor for life."  He is so deep.  :)

Anyways, I decided that I would try one last contest with my red and white bag.  Like my bag on Facebook link following and the more "Likes" I get the better possibility that I will win a $50 gift certificate to my favorite local fabric store, Hart's Fabrics.  They also sell their adorable fabrics on-line.  I'm not sure if they do international sales, but they are great!  I definitely recommend them.

Contest ends by Monday.  So Like my bag today or tomorrow!
Here's the link for the Hart's Fabric Facebook page.  Thanks for the help if you like my bag. ;)  )

Another Bag...

It seems I am addicted to making bags.  I really do enjoy making bags and they are a pretty quick sew.  Maybe I just like more of instant gratification.   It only took me about 4 hours to make.

One of my friends is coming into town this weekend, who I haven't seen in almost 2 years, so I decided to make her a bag.

I used fabric from my stash that I knew she would love. :)

I like the end result, but it was not exactly what I was planning on making.  I envisioned some thing a bit different, but I didn't measure, so it's my fault. :)

By the way, Thank you to Uhandbags which made me less afraid of zippers.  :)

Organizing Your Stash

I found this great idea and pdf from Oliver + S in the free patterns section.  It's not a pattern, but a great file that will help you organize your fabric.  I think I may be able to use it for my yarn as well.  I have an embarrassing amount of fabric as well as my yarn, and I think it might really help me use it up if I knew what I had, what it was made of and how much yardage I have.

It's called a swatch card.  It has a place to put a square of your fabric, a line for fiber content, yard available, the width of the fabric and washed or unwashed.  It's a great idea and I'll post when I have my binder all set.  It might be a while.

Here is link to the file:

Miscellaneous Sewing Projects on my mind

1) I need to take the elastic on the cloth diapers from my baby's diapers that failed and replace them and stitch them back up.  Not exciting, but I really need to do this task.

2) Make the Tigger onsie into a t shirt and make orange pants that match.  A little more fun, but I have a month and a half to do this.

3) Work on the quilt. I am getting more interested in finishing this quilt.  I need to buy more white fabric for this to finish and figure out the backing fabric.

Being Disciplined... Continuing on the Quilt

I really really want to work on another bag with that same pattern as the bag I entered in the contest, but I must be more disciplined and continue the work I started on the quilt.

Here is what I did today:
I cut triangles and organized them so that I can hopefully stitch them up quick when I am finished cutting all the fabric.

It's looking like this quilt will be very big and very bold.  I hope I like it at the end.

Finished the Bag!

It's ready to compete in the online sewing contest.  I am super excited with the results.  It is very bold and I learned a lot in the process.  I think I will make another in a more subdued color scheme.  Ok. Maybe I'll add a pop of color in the interior.  We will see..

Here is the final result.

The pattern comes from U Handbags.  Here is the link to this pattern. It's a Cinch Tote.

It's a downloadable pattern and it's worth it for sure.  I think I will be making variations of this bag for gifts this year.

Making progress on the Bag

I am pleased to say that I am making real progress on the bag I am sewing for that sewing contest.  It has definitely motivated me to finish this project up.  The deadline is Tuesday.

I have had a heck of a time finding some of the notions needed for the project so I am at a stand still for now.

No fabric/craft store has rectangular rings and swivel hooks with a 1 inch attachment.  So I have had to order them online..  I'm waiting ever so impatiently for the items to arrive.  The rectangle rings won't come in time, so I have had to go to my local hardware store where I found a suitable replacement but they were 2 dollars each.  $8.66 later.  I have a solution, but boy do I feel ripped off.  C'est la vie!

I was able to finish most of the bag yesterday night.

Here is where I am at so far:

I am really enjoying this project so far.  I have learned a lot: zippers, using thermofleece interfacing, etc.  I love making bags, but in the past I have made up my own patterns and the bags have been quite minimalist, not very fancy.  I had to read and re-read the pattern to make sure I didn't mess up. I almost messed up a few times with the outside pocket.  Fortunately, I kept reading the instructions until it made sense and the outside zipper looks great!

I am considering making another bag of the same idea with different more neutral fabric and maybe even making smaller versions for travel and gifts.

Starting another project... A Bag..

I was surfing the web and found out about a sewing contest so, I started another project.  I know.. I know.. I am supposed to finish projects right?  The contest ends in a week, so I'll let you know if I finish.  :)  I'm making a bag.  It's going to be very bold and it is using fabric from my stash.  I had to buy a few notions, but not too much.  I hope it works out. :)
